This may sound like a stupid question but what is the deal with split squads in spring training? I don't really know what they are...

"Major League Baseball teams use spring training to evaluate talent and decide which players will start the season on the big league roster. They play exhibition games virtually every day in March, but that may not be enough to get a proper look at everyone in camp. So teams often play split-squad games that divide the roster into two groups that can play different teams in different places."
